ProMotor is a software environment designed for the all-round virtual prototyping of electrical motors. It combines simulation tools for all physical domains (electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical) within one single software environment. A user-friendly graphical user interface allows monitoring and controlling the design process. Finite element simulations are performed whenever the analytical models are expected not to be sufficiently accurate, but the accuracy of the latter is then improved by enriching them with the finite element computed parameter values. Deviation between model and measurement results can be reduced to less than 1% by such combined methodologies. A computation time efficient model is obtained, appropriate for the use in an optimization process. ProMotor has been applied successfully in several research projects as well as industrial cooperation.
