Due to the technical tolerancing of the individual components in the electrical machine, variations from the ideal geometry of the machine are accepted. The size of these variations have often a direct effect on the air gap width and thus on the electromagnetic characteristics of the machine. Therefore, the study of the interactions and dependencies between the toleranced measurements of the mechanical components is essential in order to better assess the impact of production variations on the rotor eccentricity. By using the tolerancing parameters of the technical drawing and stochastic methods, the statistically most likely rotor eccentricities can be estimated yet before the machine production. The determined dynamic and static rotor eccentricities can be used as a more realistic base for the electromagnetic simulation of the air gap field.
