Investigation of the Effect of Different Cutting Techniques on the Electro- magnetic Properties of FeSi Electrical Steel
Non grain oriented electrical steel is used as magnetic core material in rotating electrical machines. Right now, only general material data from standardized testing is used for machine design and modeling. However, magnetic properties of electrical steel are highly susceptible to mechanical processing, e.g. sheet metal blanking. Cutting has a severely detrimental effect on losses and magnetization behavior. With the aim to identify and differentiate the phenomenological impact of cutting, different cutting techniques require an in-depth study with consideration of their respective physical cause, e.g. thermical, mechanical, abrasive material separation from shear, laser or water jet cutting.
