With the introduction of new efficiency standards for low-voltage motors with a power from 0.75 kW up to 375 kW, further optimisation of the efficiency is gaining more and more importance. To achieve these requierements, the different loss mechanisms have to be analyzed and taken into consideration during the design process. Based on an already existing statortopology, a copper- aswell as an aluminium-squirrel-cage induction rotor is designed and prototypically build. The different topologies are then assessed by simulation and measurements with regard to efficiency and loss distribution. Furthermore, parameterization of the thermal and electric models of the machines are carried out.
