Analysis of the magnetic load of power transformer cores
To ensure an economic and efficient operation of power transformers knowledge of the magnetic load of the transformer core is necessary. Calculation of the magnetic flux distribution can be performed by means of the finite element method. Due to large dimensions of power transformers, the local resolution of three-dimensional stray fluxes is a challenge for the numerical computation, if nonlinear material properties are considered. At IEM a multi-harmonic method is developed to investigate the stationary local flux density distribution. The proposed method is voltage driven. At comparable accuracy, the computational cost is reduced significantly when compared to a simulation in the time domain.
