Innovative concepts for electric vehicles are developed and a prototype is built in the cause of the project ePerformance which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).During this project the IEM cooperates with further RWTH Institutes and the Audi AG. Among other components, the IEM develops the electric drives, whereat a high degree of efficiency, the lightweight and an economic design are the most important aims. Furthermore, special attention is drawn to the acoustic characteristic of the drive. Electric drives can emit very distinctive single tones in a defined frequency band, which may annoy the driver of the vehicle. Therefore, the goal is to reduce or to completely eliminate these particular tones. In addition, the project deals with the development of methods for a machine design which has a resource saving construction process and is adapted to the vehicle life-cycle, respectively.
