Electrical machines in electrified drive trains
Within the project ”Europe Hybrid - Innovative Hybrid Electrical Vehicle for Europe”, a parallel full-hybrid vehicle is developed and prototyped by several institutes of the RWTH Aachen University in cooperation with industry. At the Institute of Electrical Machines the permanent magnet excited synchronous machine (PMSM) of the drive train was designed. The most important requirement in this case is a machine design according to the vehicles driving cycle. The real challenge is to determine the geometry and properties of the machine in such a way, that the range of best efficiency meets the range of most frequent operation points during a typical trip. Therefore, the overall efficiency is optimized and the energy- and fuel consumption of the vehicle are minimized according to its driving cycle.
