For high dynamics and high efficiency of a drive system with a permanent magnet synchronous machine, an appropriate control strategy is important. At the Institute of Electrical Machines (IEM), an adaptive controller with high dynamics and robustness is designed for a PMSM drive system. In the controller, the current constraint is implemented without anti-windup. The stability and transient dynamics of the system can be improved. Furthermore, the current and torque harmonics can be reduced with the adaptive controller. In order to achieve a wide speed range of the PMSM, a robust deep field weakening control with modified overmodulation strategy is developed. To reduce the losses of the PMSM, an online parameter estimation is integrated in the controller.
