A comparison of different types of electrical machines
A methodology to a fair comparison of different types of electrical machines is developed at IEM. The considered machine types are designed in the same volume with the same cooling circuit and compared to each other. Performance coefficients are used as a basis of comparison. Each machine is designed considering electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical aspects, using both analytic and numerical approach. Prototype construction and measurements on the test bench are planned. During the prototype construction, attention has to be paid to identical manufacturing steps. For each machine the performance coefficients are calculated on the basis of the simulation and measurements. The project goals include a comprehensive comparison between different types of electrical machines and the presentation of the relevant advantages and disadvantages.
