Hairin winding for induction traction drive

The hairpin winding is the focus of traction drives due to its high copper filling factor and its automated manufacturing. A commercial example is the drive of the Chevrolet Volt from Remy. This technology, however, also introduces some challenges to the machine design, particularly with respect to the winding scheme. Additional losses due to current displacement and skin effect must be considered.
