Magnetic Characterization Under the Influence of Tensile and Compressive Stresses
In August this year, a new universal testing machine was put into operation in the IEM's Test Laboratory for magnetic materials.
The universal testing machine was procured within the framework of the DFG priority program SPP 2013 "Targeted use of forming induced residual stresses in metallic components" for the project "Targeted use of residual stresses in electrical steel sheets to increase energy efficiency" (HA 4395/22-1). In this project, the IEM cooperates with the Chair of Metal Forming and Casting (utg) of the Technical University of Munich and the Forschungs-Neutronenquelle Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) to enable a targeted magnetic flux guidance by using the magneto-elastic effect in electrical machines. The universal testing machine serves to apply a homogeneous mechanical stress state. To enable the simultaneous measurement of the magnetic properties of the thin electrical strip samples, a magnetic measuring device analogous to the conventional single-sheet test principle will be constructed in the next few weeks.
The materials testing machine Z020/TN Pro Line of the company Zwick/Roell is able to
- Perform tensile and compression tests to determine the maximum force and length change
- Manual testing of target position and speed can be freely changed during the test
- Statistical evaluation of test results and tolerance monitoring
- Force/strain control with the testing machine
- Correction of machine deformation (correction curve)
- Connection of sample measuring devices
