Deformation Measurement of Rotors in High-Speed Electrical Machines
Rotors of high-speed electrical machines are subject to high mechanical stresses due to centrifugal forces. In the design process of electrical machines, the simulated mechanical stresses within the steel lamination are chosen to be below the yield strength of the material. At the institute, a test bench is set up to measure the rotor deformation up to 20,000 rpm in operation. These measurements enable a realistic description of the mechanical stress destribution and a study on the influences of cyclic mechanical stress inside the rotor lamination.
