A list of intercontinental airports can be found below. Although Frankfurt is furthest away, the train connections are fastest.
Frankfurt Airport, Germany: Distance: 255 km. You need to change trains in Cologne main station with almost every train connection.
Amsterdam Airport, Netherlands: Distance: 240 km. You need to change trains in Brussels at the station "Bruxelles Midi" / "Brussel Zuid" with every train connection.
Brussels Airport, Belgium: Distance: 143 km. You need to change trains in Brussel at the station "Bruxelles Midi" / "Brussel Zuid" with every train connection. Attention! The second airport called Brussels Airport is Brussels Charleroi Airport. This is located in Charleroi, about 40 km south of Brussels.

Arrival via train
Destination station is Aachen Hauptbahnhof, which is the main station, or Aachen West. Take Bus number 3 until ‘Ponttor’ or use a cab.
You can easily get to the insitute from Aachen West station by foot: The exit is at a passage underground where you turn left and follow the road until the next possible turn to your right into Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse. Follow the street. The IEM is located just behind a road bridge. It takes about five-minute walking distance.

Arrival via car
Coming from Cologne, Autobahn A4, from Dusseldorf, Autobahn A44 or from Belgium, Autobahn A44: Drive to “Kreuz Aachen” and change to A4 direction Heerlen;
Take the exit “Laurensberg”, also if you are coming from Netherlands, and turn right direction “Innenstadt / Aachen Zentrum”; Follow the signs “RWTH-Zentrum” until first traffic lights after the Ford research center. There is the “Republikplatz” and the bus stop ‘Westbahnhof’.
Please turn right. Turn left in front of the railroad bridge after 20m, ~65 feet, to Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse. Follow the road. The IEM is located just behind a road bridge. The RWTH-building number is 1250.
